Peony is also called "Mary's Rose" or "Pentecost Rose." Because of its large, lush blossoms, the peony symbolizes Mary's overflowing love and "abundant grace" she bestows upon her children. Pillar is the first known Marian apparition, where Mary appeared to St. James the Greater in Spain atop a pillar of jasper. The pillar represents the strength and steadfastness Mary provides to the Church.
