On the Anniversary of the Death of this Saint

September 30, 2025

On this day 128 years ago, St. Therese of the Child Jesus and of the Holy Face met the Lord face to face.

She is a remarkable saint of the ordinary whose desire to return love for love became an extraordinary witness to the power of God in souls who rejoice in their littleness.

St. Therese knew fully the greatness of her limitations, and yet, armed with confident love, she understood that Merciful Love knows no bounds.

Having made peace with her own incapacity to love the Lord as she wanted to love Him, she perceived an ineffable logic: if we open our souls to receive the merciful love Jesus thirsts to give us, it is that very love that will love Him in return.

And so, we need not be afraid to acknowledge our need. What freedom there is to be found in knowing ourselves as we are, sins and imperfections and all!

That is why our dear Lord Jesus came, to meet our weakness and misery with His outpouring of tenderness.

He sees us, Lily.

He sees us, He knows us, and He loves us.

Let us trust in His merciful goodness!
